English as a Second Language (ESL)

English language learners are students in provincially funded English language schools whose first language is a language other than English, or is a variety of English that is significantly different from the variety used for instruction in Ontario's schools.

These students may require focused educational supports to assist them in attaining proficiency in English as they need to learn the language of instruction in English language schools at the same time as they are working towards meeting the curriculum expectations.

Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) offers an after school International Language Program for elementary students. This is a free program for school age children from Kindergarten to Grade 8. The program runs after school for 2.5 hours per week. Program offerings, dates and times are based on sufficient registrants.
